Why is the US Constitution Good?

Sometimes the case is made that our Constitution is “good” because it was “handed down by the Founding Fathers”, that is “divinely inspired”, that it has just been around for a long time, etc, etc.

All such assertions are missing the point. None of these assertions need to be given much weight in view of the following all-important assertion: our Constitution is good because it embodies a set of principals that have proven to work. They have worked to create the most prosperous, most free, most generous people that can be seen in recorded history. This is the basis of American Exceptionalism.

Our Constitution, while not perfect, has given rise to nation that (in a twist on the quote from Winston Churchill) that is “the worst … except for every other.”
